4-LEAF CLOVER BLOCK
Hello fibre friends,
It’s been a minute since I’ve added to the Pink Notebook! You may have seen from socials that I’ve been on another kick with adding quilt blocks to clothes. Since St. Patrick’s Day is around the corner, I decided to have some fun with all the shamrock and green and white fabrics I had on hand.
But why keep it to myself?!? That’s not cool! So here you go my friends… the step-by-step on how to make this fun little 4-leaf clover block.
Materials:
(4) 3½" squares
(12) 1½" squares
(1) 3½"x6½" - Cut on diagonal from top right to bottom left.
(1) 3½" x 7¼" - Cut on diagonal from top left to bottom right.
Sewing Machine
Cutting mat
Rotary Cutter
Quilting Ruler
Marking Tool
Seam Ripper (just in case 😉)
Note: Seam allowance is ¼" unless otherwise noted.
Step 1:
Draw line corner-to-corner on wrong side of 1½" squares. Sew one to three of the four corners of each 3½" square.
Step 2:
Trim ¼" from seam. Press open. Lay out your four squares as shown.

Step 3:
Sew four squares together. Press seams open.
Step 4:
With 3½"x6½" triangles, lay them wrong sides up. Place A triangle on at the bottom of your 4-square and B triangle at the top. Make sure the short edge corner of triangles are ¼" from over the side of the 4-square. Opposite corner will have more than ¼" overhang. That’s ok! Pin in place being careful not to stretch triangles. Sew together. Press towards triangles.
Step 5:
With 3½" x 7¼" triangles, lay them wrong sides up. Place C triangle at the bottom and D triangle at the top. Make ure short edge corners of triangles are ¼" over the side. Opposite corner will have more than ¼" overhang. Again, it’s ok! Pin in place being careful not to stretch triangles. Sew together. Press towards triangles.
Step 6:
Square up block to 8¼". The clover will be slightly off kilter. Block complete! 🍀
Fun story… Our PTO Board did a “Leprechaun Name” game. Mine came up as Bubbles O’Sparkly Pants. So I’ll be wearing these fun sequin shorts with my new 4-leaf clover shirt and shamrock tights. Growing up in Dublin, Ohio, St. Patrick’s Day was always a big deal. No need in changing that tradition now! This is going to be fun!
Stitch on me hearties, 💕
