A Patchwork Skirt

The Aurifil Artisan theme for may is garments/apparel. I love my quilt coat and vest, but I live in Georgia. That means I only get to wear them about 2-3 weeks a year!
I set my creative mind to creating a patchwork skirt. Adding batting would present the same issue as my coat and vest, so I skipped that. I finished just in time to wear it to my daughter’s First Communion!
THE PATTERNS
With a fat quarter bundle of Picturesque by Katarina Roccella for Art Gallery Fabrics, I made a scrappy version of the Lighted Path quilt. For the skirt pattern, I used Simplicity 6106. The pattern is so easy to follow. However, I wish I had chosen a pattern that included the lining instructions. I made it through and I’m so relieved I can actually wear it!
THE CHALLENGE
I’ve sewn curves before, so I initially I wasn’t worried. But the pockets! I tried 2 or 3 times before I finally just gave in. This will just have to do! HA!
With some of my quilt top remnants, thanks to the idea from my friend Jada, I also made a matching headband! It was the perfect accessory. You can see what else I made on my Instagram feed.
Next time, and there WILL be a next time, I’m thinking of trying McCall’s 4783 or Simplicity 7230. I’m also on the hunt for a dress pattern. So far I’ve found Simplicity S9766, McCall’s M7533 and New Look 6145. If you have any suggestions for easy skirt or dress patterns, please email me!
If you’ve never sewn apparel, Craftsy offers a wide variety of helpful classes! You can get help with skirts, zippers and so much more.
Until next time fibre friends… Stitch on, me hearties!
